To provide an axle device with a simple and compact structure capable of being used for a wheelchair or a carriage and providing a speed adjusting function.
This axle device includes a double row bearing 4 having a plural of rows of rolling elements 3 between an inner member 1 and an outer member 2. The bearing 4 is an angular ball bearing. The outer member 2 comprises a hub wheel. The inner member 1 comprises an axle 7 and an inner wheel 8. One of rolling surfaces 6 and 6 is formed on an inner wheel 7. The inner wheel 8 is screwed with the axle 7 to be movable axially in relation to the axle 7. The axial movement adjusts preload of the bearing to generate braking torque. The outer periphery of the inner wheel 8 is provided with an operation lever 12 through a cylindrical member 11 with serration engagement.
