PURPOSE: To obtain a new azaaromatic compd. capable of improving characteristics such as dielectric anisotropy, optical anisotropy, viscosity, sponta neous polarization, phase range, tilt angle and dielectric pitch when used in a liq. crystalline mixture.
CONSTITUTION: This azaaromatic compd. is a compd. of the formula [where R1 and R2 are each H, a 1-20C alkyl (one or more CH2 groups may be substd. by O, S, CO, OS, or the like, and one or more H atoms of the alkyl may be substd. by F, Cl, Br, SCN, or the like) or the like; X, Y, Z, X1, Y1, Z1, V2, X2, Y2 and Z2 are each CH, CF or N; M1 and M2 are each O, S, CO, CO-O, O-CO, O-CO-O, CO-S, CS-O, CS, CH=CH, C≡C or the like; A1 and A2 are each 1,4-phenylene, pyrazin-2,5-diyl, pyridazin-3,6-diyl, tran-1,4-cyclohexylene or the like; and (a), (b), (c), (d), (m) and (n) are each 0 or 1 but m+n and a+d are each 0 or 1], e.g. 3-octyloxy-6-[6-(4-octyloxyphenyl)pyridin-3-yl]pyridazine.
