PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an azo compound having excellent solubility and an oily or aqueous dye composition thereof.SOLUTION: This invention provides an azo compound that is a metal complex salt compound of Cr or Co and a compound of formula (4), where Ris H, a halogen atom, a nitro group, an aryl group, a sulfonamide group, a carboxyl group, a 1-4C alkyl group, -SO2 NHRor -COOR; Ris a 1-4C alkyl group; Ris a 1-4C alkoxy group; Rindependently represents H, a halogen atom, a nitro group, an aryl group, a 1-4C alkyl group, -SO2 NHR6 or-COOR6.
