Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To position a spherical body for ball test by accurately regulating its position from a substantial pipe end without being affected by flashes when the ball test is applied to a metallic pipe with the flashes remaining thereon just after it has been cast.
SOLUTION: This tester comprises a ball 1 for forming a depression of a certain depth in a surface of the metallic pipe 3, a support body 2 for supporting the ball in a projecting manner on its surface, a pressure device 8 for bringing the ball 1 into pressure contact with the pipe 3 to cause the ball 1 supported by the support body 2 to form the depression, and a stopper 16 making contact with a pipe end face 3a of the pipe 3 to axially position the pipe 3 relative to the spherical body. A contact edge 16a of the stopper 16 with the end face 3a is given knife edge shaped and the stopper 16 is fixed so that the extending direction of the contact edge 16a runs along the driving direction of the pressure device.
