To provide a paper currency identification device that easily maintains a conveyance belt and reduces the number of component items and costs.
A first conveyance unit 30 having the conveyance belt 33 is attachably/detachably disposed in a body case 10, so that the first conveyance unit 30 is removed to the outside, and the conveyance belt 33 is cleaned or replaced. In this case, the first conveyance unit 30 is formed so that a conveyance belt 32 extends longitudinally on one end side of the first conveyance unit 30, and extends vertically on the other end side of the first conveyance unit 30 to the lower end side of a paper currency storage unit 70. The conveyance belt 32 does not extend long to the upper end side of the paper currency storage unit 70 thereby, and the conveyance belt 32 is formed short even in a structure where paper currency is conveyed longitudinally and vertically.
