To provide a compact bill identification device that can be installed in a space inadequate for a conventional device.

The bill identification device 1 includes: a bill conveying unit 10 for conveying a bill P input into a body through a slot 4 along conveying paths 6, 7 and 8; an identification unit 20 (identification sensors 26 and 27) for identifying the authenticity of the input bill P; a bill storage unit 30 for storing the conveyed bill P; and a stacking means 40 for pushing the conveyed bill P to be stacked in the bill storage unit 30. The conveying path 8 of the bill conveying unit 10 and the bill storage unit 30 are curved so that the bill P is stored in the bill storage unit 30 in a curved state. The bill storage unit 30 stores the bill P with its substantially longitudinal center curved.
