To produce a base body for a photographic paper having good smoothness without producing fog in the glass of an emulsion surface by foaming a resin laminated layer with a specified foaming rate and foam size.
The foaming rate of a resin laminated layer 3 formed on the back surface of a paper base is specified to 1.1-1.8 times. Since the foam size largely affects the effect to improve smoothness, the foam size is specified to 80-300μm. This base body for a photographic paper features that a foamed resin laminated layer 3 is formed on the opposite side (back surface) of a paper base body 2 to the side where a photographic image is to be formed (where an emulsion is to be applied) and that the surface roughness is increased to give good smooth property. By foaming the resin laminated layer 3, the amt. of the resin can be decreased. A resin layer or anchor coating layer may be formed so as to improve adhesion between the foamed resin laminated layer 3 and the paper base body 2.
