The base cloth for an air bag includes a synthetic fiber woven cloth, and has a tensile strength of 500 N/cm or more both in warp and weft directions in a tensile test, a ratio of elongation at a load of 300 N/cm is 40% or more in total in warp and weft directions, a maximum tensile resistance is 90cN/dtex or more in total in warp and weft directions, and a load seam permeability (permeability under a differential pressure of 50kPa after imparting a tensile load of 1,500 N/15 cm to a specific seam) of 2000 mm/s or less as an average of permeability in warp and weft directions after being loaded.
