Abstract:
To provide a new or improved battery separator for a lead acid battery, the battery separator containing a carbon or mineral additive applied to the separator.SOLUTION: In an embodiment considered preferred, a battery separator may contain an engineered carbon material applied to the battery separator in order to modify the formation of sulfate crystals while reducing the deleterious effects of excessive gassing on the negative electrode itself. In one embodiment, a method of improving lead-acid energy storage performance of a lead-acid battery may include delivering carbon to the surface of a negative active material of a battery separator, and the carbon effectively improves charge acceptance to improve the life cycle performance of the lead-acid battery.SELECTED DRAWING: None
