Title:
BEAM FORMATION FOR OPTICAL SCANNER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3709222
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a simple and inexpensive means for adjusting the profile (width at a specified distance from a light source) of a beam in the direction of 'y' as in a desired way.
CONSTITUTION: The optical scanner such as a bar code scanner contains a laser diode and generates a scanning laser beam. The laser diode has astigmatism on a characteristic. When the beam 18 passes through a lens having rotational symmetry, the beam 18 is contracted in the direction of 'x' (scanning direction) and the direction of 'y' (right angled direction). The width of the outline of the beam in the direction of 'x' is adjusted by a conventional lens. The width of the outline of the beam in the direction of 'y' is adjusted by using a non-planar mirror, a cylindrical mirror 200 if desired, as a rotary or rocking element.
