The beam shaping optical device has an incident side surface, an exiting side surface on an opposite side and an optical axis, and both the incident side surface and the exiting side surface are formed so that their cross sections on any plane including the optical axis may be non-circular. In the beam shaping optical device, the optical axis is aligned with the Z-axis of a three-axis orthogonal XYZ coordinate system, and the incident side surface and the exiting side surface are expressed by an expression including a term expressing non-rotationally symmetric aspherical profile, at least one correction term consisting of a function only of a variable X and at least one correction term consisting of a function only of a variable Y.
