PURPOSE: To prevent the belt of a conveyor for conveying a large quantity of material in bulk over a long distance from causing noises or meandering and from burning, by attaching rockably both ends of a metallic reinforcing plate provided on the lower surface of the belt to chains moving together with the belt.
CONSTITUTION: A belt 4 and roller chains 21, 21A are moved to a predetermined direction by driving sprockets. The carrier belt 4 is supported at its carrier sides by sprockets 11 and 11A attached respectively to columns 5 and 5A on both sides of the belt through a multiplicity of reinforcing plates 13, so that it can move while maintaining the original trough angle α even if it carries a heavy article. These reinforcing plates, when advance to the return side, are extended to reduce the trough angle to zero, whereby the sprockets 9, 9A are caused to engage and move the roller chains 21, 21A. According to this construction, the belt can be effectively prevented from meandering or causing noises, and also from burning which would cause a fire.
