To provide a belt wrapper capable of adapting to the width of a strip in a wide range from a wide width to a narrow width, reducing flaws of a belt by a strip edge and uneven elongation of an end part of the belt, lengthening the service life of the belt, reducing maintenance cost and improving production efficiency, and its operating method.
This belt wrapper winds the strip on a winding shaft. The belt wrapper is provided with a center belt unit 12 having a center belt for pressing a center part of the strip of a maximum width, a plurality of end part belt units 14 having end part belts located on both sides of the center belt, and a moving device 16 for independently moving the center belt unit and the end part belt units 14 between a using position and a standby position.
