Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL: Pure diastereomers or their mixed compounds and acid-added salts of formula I (R1 is H or 2-4C alkanoyl; R2 is phenyl having optionally 1-3 substituent selected from halogen, methylenedioxy, ethylenedioxy or 1-4C alkoxy).

EXAMPLE: (+)-cis-3-acetyloxy-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)-5-[2-{N-[2-(3,4- methylenedioxyphenyl)methyl]methyl amino}ethyl]-2,3-dihydro-5H-1,5- benzothiazepin-4-one oxalate.

USE: Calcium antagonistic substance. For example, drugs for hypertension, angina, cardiac arrhythmia, and moreover anti-arterosclerotic agents and anti-epileptic agents.

PROCESS: The compound of formula II is reacted with the compound of formula III (X is halogen) to obtain the compound of formula I.
