NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R is H, alkanoyl, benzyloxycarbonyl, or other amino-protecting group).
EXAMPLE: 3-Benzyloxycarbonylamino-2-phenyl-2, 3-dihydro-1, 5-benzothiazepin-4 (5H)-one.
USE: Useful as an intermediate of pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, and other industrial chemicals. For example, it can be used as a raw material of a hypotensor having angiotensinase inhibiting activity.
PREPARATION: The compound of formula I can be produced by (1) reacting the compound of formula II (R1 is alkanoyl, etc.) with 2-aminobenzenethiol in the absence or presence of a solvent such as benzene, at 0°CW the boiling point of the reaction mixture for 1Wseveral hr, and (2) cyclizing the resultant compound of formula III and if necessary eliminating the R1 group.
