To provide the subject new compound useful as a hypoglycemic medicine especially for treating diabetes.
A compound of formula I [X and Y are each O or S: Z is CR1R2 (R1 and R2 are each independently H or a lower alkyl) or CR1R2CH2; R3 is phenyl, biphenyl or the like which may independently be substituted by one or two of halogen atoms, lower alkyl groups and the like; R4 and R5 are each independently H, a halogen, a lower alkyl, trifluoromethyl, COOR6 (R6 is H, a lower alkyl or the like) or the like] in a proper free or salt form. For example, (-)-trans-2S-[(4-chlorophenoxy)methyl]-7a-(3,4-dichloro-phenyl)-2,3,7,7a- tetrahydropyrrolo[2,1-b]oxazol-5(6H)-one. The compound of formula I (R6 is not H) is obtained by allowing a compound of formula II to react with a compound of formula III (R7 is H or an amino-protecting group).
