To provide an image forming apparatus, a charging system, a charging device, and their charging method for preventing expenditures which are not intended by the user to be resulted from any erroneous operation on an image forming apparatus by making a charging type image forming apparatus, terminal equipment or charging device store the upper limit sum of charging.
When a print start button or the like is depressed (S6; Yes), a charging sum is calculated before print processing is performed (S7). When the charging sum is compared with a balance recorded in a prepaid card, and the charging sum is lower than the balance (S8; No), the charging sum is compared with the previously stored upper limit sum of charging. Then, when the charging sum is higher than the upper limit of sum of charging (S10; Yes), a display input part is made to display the charging sum and a message to inquiry to a user regarding whether to print (S11). When an operation for executing image forming processing is performed by the user, in response to the message, the print processing is started.
