To provide a bioabsorbable blood vessel blocking coil for arranging in a blood vessel of a patient to block the blood vessel which is manufactured from a flexible hollow monofilament made of a bioabsorbable polymer.
Poly-L-lactic acid is subjected to melt-spinning at 200°C and is extended to obtain a hollow monofilament having an outside diameter of 0.15mm and an inside diameter of 0.12mm. The hollow monofilament is cut into 8cm. Both ends of the obtained cut piece are then wound around a stainless mandrel with a diameter of 1mm by half a turn to form J-shaped curls, are heated to 150°C and are cooled. The bioabsorbable blood vessel blocking coil (3) having J-shaped curve sections (1) on both ends and a hollow section (2) extending over the entire length of the coil is thus obtained. The hollow section can be filled with anticancer drugs, antitumor agents or the like so as to achieve sustained release of the medicines in addition to the blockage of the blood vessel. Additionally, by filling the hollow section with an X-ray contrast preparation (barium sulfate, gold dusts, iodide contrast agent or the like), the coil can be delivered accurately to a desired position in the blood vessel and observation of the treatment process can be conducted more precisely.
