PURPOSE: To provide biocidal azoxime compounds containing specified phenylazoxime compounds or their N-oxides as effective components, exhibiting fungicidal activity against vein downy mildew or radish powdery mildew and nematocidal activity.
CONSTITUTION: The composition containing a compound of formula I (R is an optionally substd. aryl or heteroaryl; X is amino, alkyl, aryl or heteroaryl; Z is H or alkanoyl) or its N-oxide as active ingredient, is applied to a prescribed place to kill fungi. The compound of formula I exists in the form of cis-isomer or trans-isomer, and the isomer is used solely or in the mixture form. For example, a compound of formula II (X is not amino) is treated with a higher alkyl nitrite in the presence of a base to give a compound when Z is H. The product is further optionally derivatized to unoxidised product to give the compound of formula I containing a new compound.
