Abstract:

To provide a cultured tissue construct comprising cultured cells and endogenously produced extracellular matrix components without the requirement of exogenous matrix components or network support or scaffold members.

The tissue construct is composed of multiple cell layers or one or more cell types. The tissue construct has morphological features and functions similar to tissues and its mechanical strength makes it easily handleable. A preferred cultured tissue construct is produced in a defined medium, that is, without the addition of chemically undefined components.
