The bis(1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-hydroxypropyl)benzene derivative having the oxetane ring is represented by formula (1) (wherein R1 and R2 are each hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group). A method for producing the compound represented by formula (1) comprises reacting a compound represented by formula (2) with a compound represented by formula (3) (wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom or a 1-4C alkyl group; A is a methyl group, an ethyl group, a phenyl group or tolyl group) and an alkali metal carbonate, an alkali metal hydroxide, an alkali metal hydride or an alkali metal.
