PURPOSE: To produce the subject new compound, useful as a substance, etc., for generating charge carriers of electrophotographic photoreceptors, excellent in stability and electrification characteristics and having high sensitivity and durability by reacting a nitrosalicylaldehyde derivative with a 1,3-dihaloacetone.
CONSTITUTION: A new bisazo compound of formula I [R1 is H, a halogen, a lower alkyl, a lower alkoxy, trifluoromethyl, a (substituted)aralkyl, etc.; (n) is an integer of 1-3; X is 0, S or =N-R2 (R2 is OH a lower alkoxy, an aryloxy, etc.); Cpl is a (substituted)6-14C aromatic hydrocarbon compound residue having a phenolic hydroxyl group]. This compound is useful as a substance, etc., for generating charge carriers of electrophotographic photoreceptors, excellent in stability and electrification characteristics and having high sensitivity and durability. The compound is obtained by reacting nitrosalicylaledehydes of formula II with a 1,3-dihaloacetone of formula III (A is a halogen), providing a bis(nitro-2-benzo[b]furyl) ketone derivative of formula IV, reducing the resultant compound, diazotizing the reduction product and subsequently reacting the prepared diazo compound with phenols.
