Abstract:
PURPOSE:To attain reversible and efficient compression coding by using the correlation of a picture element in a bit plane and the correlation between bit planes. CONSTITUTION:An original picture data is stored in a picture memory 1 and a coded bit plane data, that is, a higher-order bit plane data than the bit plane desired to be coded, and the coded data in the corresponding bit plane are used as the prediction reference data and stored in the prediction reference memory 2. The data is referenced and the prediction section 3 forms a predictive data. The predictive data is used as the reference data in the coding section 4 and the corresponding bit plane data from the picture memory 1 is coded. Thus, the reversible highly efficient compression coding is realized without losing the optional gradation bit setting at recording and hierarchy reproduction at reproduction being advantages of the bit plane coding method.
