To obtain the subject cosmetic such as a milky lotion, having strong tyrosinase activity inhibitory action, capable of inhibiting or reducing pigmentation to the skin such as fleckles, having slight irritancy to the skin, and also having high safety to the skin, by including an extract obtained by subjecting rice bran to extraction with an acidic aqueous midium.
This bleaching cosmetic is obtained by including an extract from rice bran subjected to extraction using an acidic aqueous medium adjusted to pH 1 to 4 by lactic acid or the like. The above-mentioned aqueous medium is desirable to be water or a mixture of water with a water-miscible organic solvent. The amount of the above-mentioned extract to be compounded is pref. 0.01 to 0.5 wt.% on a solid basis, when normal rice bran is used. The above- mentioned extract, when normal rice bran is to be used as an object for extraction, is obtained, for example, by the following process comprising first, if necessary, conducting enzyme deactivation treatment such as heating on rice bran, and then, adding pref. 2 to 5 wt. times of the above-mentioned acidic aqueous medium based on the weight of the dried rice bran and conducting an extraction normally at 4 to 40°C for about 6 h to 7 days.
