PURPOSE: To improve the yield of blooming by biting the end of an ingot during blooming into blooming rolls then halting the rolling and unbiting the end from the roll at the timing of blooming the ingot without forging.
CONSTITUTION: At least either, for example, end (a) of the ends a, a' of the circular columnar titanium ingot 1 is bitten between the rolling rolls and indented parts 4 are formed by the bitten and unbitten rolling. The effect is higher as the formation of the indented parts 4 is executed in the earlier stage during the rolling schedule to the blooming. The degree of the bitten and unbitten rolling is so selected that the length of the indented parts 4 is ≥1/4 the circumference of the rolling rolls engaged for the rolling of said parts and that the unrolled parts are similarly made to remain at ≥1/4 the circumference of the rolling rolls. The generation of a defective part at the end (a) is suppressed and the yield is remarkably improved in the blooming by the above- mentioned method.
