To provide a blower for a cooling tower capable of compactifying a reduction gear while realizing a proper rotational speed of an impeller by using a friction gearing for the reduction gear, capable of rotating the impeller at a sufficiently low rotational frequency even when a motor and the impeller are arranged on the same axis, and capable of suppressing noise generation.
A planetary roller type frictional transmission speed reducing mechanism is used as the reduction gear 20 providing a proper rotational frequency of the impeller 30, each output shaft of the motor 10 and the reduction gear 20 and a rotation center of the impeller 30 are arranged on the same axis, and since rotational output of the motor 10 is reduced by frictional transmission between each roller of the reduction gear 20, there is no generation of impulsive sound or the like from the reduction gear 20 following operation, noise is suppressed, the motor 10 and the reduction gear 20 are compactified, project areas of the motor 10 and the reduction gear 20 becoming resistance in a draft passage of the cooling tower 60 in an axial direction of the impeller 30 can be minimized, draft resistance is reduced to improve draft performance, and efficiency of the cooling tower 60 can be improved.
