PURPOSE: To improve life and spalling resistance by assembling a nozzle, which forms a part of a vessel bottom and has many vent holes, of refractories which do not form vent holes and are wetted by the melt in the vessel and refractories which form vent holes.
CONSTITUTION: A titled nozzle forms a part of the wall or bottom of a metal refining vessel in the section that contact with the melt therein, consists of refractories having a prescribed thickness and is provided with many vent holes penetrating through the nozzle surface (a) exposing to the inside of the vessel and the nozzle surface (b) facing the feed gas side. Said nozzle consists of refractory segments 8 forming vent holes 4 and refractory segments 9 forming no vent holes. The segments 9 exhibit wettability with the melt in the vessel. The above-mentioned nozzle is improved in life by a self-coating effect and is highly resistant to spalling.
