Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a circuit breaker for a medium voltage or a high voltage in which a spray gas is not excessively heated owing to an arc excessively extended. CONSTITUTION: A semifixed contact is fixed at a moving piston 8 in a cylinder 9, and the piston 8 defines a primary volume part V1 at one end of an arc area and a secondary part V2 at the other end, in the cylinder 9. The semifixed contact is subject to an action of a spring 13 which moves it to same direction as a movable contact during an open circuit operation. The circuit breaker restricts a moving velocity and a moving distance of the piston 8 to a compression direction of the spring 13 during an open circuit operation with a short- circuit current and besides contains a means to inject a gas not contaminated into an arc contact area during a recovery operation for a closed circuit after the open circuit operation.
