To provide a bookbinding apparatus which eliminates the need to trim the edges of the inside sheets arranged in a bundle-like manner before bookbinding the back ends.
When a spine cover is formed by binding the back end faces of the inside sheets piled up and arranged in a bundle-like manner, a book cover sheet of the same size as the inside sheets is divided into a plurality of pieces to form strip-like spine cover sheets. To this end, the following are disposed on the book cover sheet feeding route which provides the book cover sheet to the processing stage: the spine cover forming means which divides the book cover sheet into a plurality of pieces; the spine cover feeding means which feeds and sets the divided sheet on the processing stage; the book cover stand-by means which puts the book cover sheet on stand-by after the division.
