PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a bookbound article capable of preventing a cover from jumping out of the small port side end of a book body even when covers are sequentially added to book bodies different in thickness.SOLUTION: This bookbinding device is provided with: a cover forming unit 9 that forms covers Q one by one by cutting an original cover Oalong the vertical direction thereof; a cover adding unit 4 that sticks a cover Q formed by the cover forming unit 9 to a book body P; and a control unit 10 that controls the cover forming unit 9 on the basis of a length s between the small port side end and the backside end of the book body P and the thickness t of the book body P. The cover forming unit 9 cuts the original cover Qso that the length L of the cover Q in a small port direction can be larger twice than the length s between the small port side end and the backside end of the book body P to which the cover Q is stuck and equal to or less than the sum (L≤2s+t) of the thickness t of the book body P to which the cover Q is stuck.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
