Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a braille typewriter which can be easily operated by both normal sighted people and blind people and is capable of quickly typing a document in braille by the adoption of such an arrangement whereby a character and a corresponding braille type are formed and simultaneously an audio signal corresponding to the braille type is also generated in response to the operation of one of keys on which characters and corresponding braille types are displayed respectively.

CONSTITUTION: A key 1 on which a braille type and a corresponding character are displayed, provided at a keyboard unit 2 is operated, and its input signal is given to a control unit 40 provided in the main body of a typewriter 9, and its output signal is given to a voice composing circuit 41 and a drive circuit 42 of an audio signal means 5 and an audio signal corresponding to the key 1 is generated from a speaker 43. Simultaneously, in the print unit 3, a desired type 12a among plural types 12 accommodated in a type head 11 of a type cylinder 13 in the main body 14 of the print unit is caused to protrude to print an ordinary character on the paper 10 through an ink ribbon 15. On the other hand, in the braille type forming unit 4, a braille type forming lever 25 corresponding to the character to be printed by the type 12a is caused to protrude to form a braille type on the paper 10.
