Abstract:

PURPOSE: To densify a brick and improve the oxidation, corrosion and spalling resistances by adding a metal in the form of a carbide in place of a metallic powder to be added in order to prevent the oxidation to a carbonaceous material and specifying the composition.

CONSTITUTION: This brick comprises 3-40wt.% carbonaceous material and 0.5-15wt.% aluminum silicon carbide. Although natural graphite, artificial graphite, electrode wastes, petroleum coke, carbon black, etc., can be used as the carbonaceous material, high-purity graphite is suitable from aspects of high- temperature corrosion resistance. When the content of the carbonaceous material exceeds 40wt.%, the strength of the brick is deteriorated. Conversely, when the content thereof is <3wt.%, the spalling and corrosion resistances are deteriorated. When the content of the aluminum silicon carbide exceeds 15wt.%, the corrosion resistance is deteriorated. When the content thereof is <0.5wt.%, the effects of addition are not manifested.
