To provide a broad-band light source capable of generating a seed optical pulse, and outputting light generated by expanding the optical frequency of the seed optical pulse by an inexpensive constitution suppressing the increase of cost.
The broad-band light source is equipped with a semiconductor Fabry-Perot laser 1; an SMF 3 for making wavelength dispersion into abnormal dispersion in the oscillation wavelength of the semiconductor Fabry-Perot laser 1, and generating a light pulse row of a repeated frequency which corresponds to the vertical mode interval of continuous light from continuous light oscillated from the semiconductor Fabry-Perot laser 1; and a rear earth group adding a highly non-linear fiber 4 inducing a light non-linear configuration and generating a band frequency constituent broader than the frequency constituent of the light pulse row from a light pulse row outputted from the SMF 3.
