NEW MATERIAL: Compounds BU-3420T represented by formulas I and II (wherein R is CH3CO) and triacetates thereof.
USE: Antibiotics having antibacterial, antifungal and antitumoral activity.
PREPARATION: Micromonospora chercina species nova, strain BU-3420, desirably Micromonospora chelcina ATCC53710 or its variant is cultured in an aqueous nutrient medium containing a utilizable carbon and nitrogen source under liquid aerobic conditions till a substantial amount of BU-3420T is produced in the medium by the microorganisms. The BU-3420T is recovered from the medium to obtain a compound of formula I. Next, this is reacted with an acetylating agent which can introduce acetyl groups into positions 10 and 12 of the compound in an inert organic solvent to obtain a compound of formula II.
