Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the thickness in a radial direction of a reservoir and to reduce the size of a buffer, in a buffer to change an electric field applied on a gap for control between a cylinder and an electrode cylinder, and vary a damping force by changing apparent viscosity of electric viscous fluid flowing through a gap for control when a piston is moved.
SOLUTION: An insulation layer 22 is formed on either the outer peripheral surface of an electrode cylinder 6 in a range where electric viscosity fluid in a reservoir 17 makes contact or the inner peripheral surfaces of housings 4A, 4B, and 4C. Since, due to formation of the insulation layer 22, no power is consumed by electric viscous fluid in a reservoir between the electrode cylinder 6 and the housing, the thickness in a radial direction of a reservoir is reduced, and the size of the buffer is reduced. Further, since the output of no power source is consumed by electric viscous fluid in a reservoir, an output is reduced by an amount equivalent to no consumption of a power.
