PURPOSE: To obtain bundled fibers having a well trimmed shape and large surface area by forming the bundled fibers for reinforcing cement to a flat chip shape.
CONSTITUTION: Band-shaped tow 15 bundled with several ten thousands to over million pieces of long fibers is immersed 4 into an aq. soln. of a water-soluble binder and is passed through mangle wringing rolls 5, by which 5 to 20wt.% water-soluble binder is stuck to the tow. After this tow is dried 6, the band- shaped tow 17 is cut to many tape-like materials 11 of a width 2 to 6mm by means of slit cutters 8 disposed with many cutting blades at 2 to 6mm intervals in the transverse direction of the band-shaped materials. The tape-like materials 11 are thereafter cut to a length 3 to 10mm by a cutting machine 9, by which the bundled fibers 10 for reinforcing cement are obtd. The water-soluble binder is stuck to the bundled fibers 10 for reinforcing cement as 5 to 20wt.% of the fibers. The number of the bundling pieces of the fibers is 100 to 500 pieces, the width 2 to 6mm, the length 3 to 10mm, the thickness 0.1 to 1.0mm and the weight 8×10-4 to 5×10-2.
