In this case, when the actual steering direction of wheels WL and WR and the direction of the steering torque become reversed, it is so judged as a wheel returning time when the steering wheel is restored to a neutral position by means of a road surface reaction, and the power steering motor 24 is driven so as to compensate each friction of these Bowden cables 5 and 6, thereby generating an assist force to restore the wheel 1 to the neutral position, and when each steering angle of these wheels WL and WR comes to zero, the drive of the power steering motor 4 is stopped.
