Whether the battery should be exchanged or not is decided according to whether a RAM 4 is reset or not. In the case of loading film in the camera, the display of the display device 2 is set to an inverse operation mode, and in the case of detecting that the battery is exchanged, the display is switched to the forward operation display where the displayed number is incremented by one every time photographing is performed by setting the display just after exchanging the battery of the device 2 as '1'. Furthermore, the display for distinguishing between the inverse operation display and the forward operation display is executed on the device 2. In the case the battery is exchanged, the display of the film counter of the device 2 is switched to the forward operation display where the displayed number is incremented every time photographing is performed, and also the effect that the display is switched to the forward operation display is displayed to the photographer. Therefore, there is no possibility that the photographer erroneously recognizes the displayed number as the number of actually remaining photographic frames after the battery is exchanged.
