To provide a camera system with which appropriate exposure can be attained even when a stop value set by a manual diaphragm setting apparatus for a photographing lens cannot be detected.
Regarding a camera equipped with a stopped-down apparatus for stopping down the diaphragm apparatus for the photographing lens and a photometry means for performing the photometry with object light received through the photographing lens, the camera is provided with a control means for operating the stopped-down apparatus before the exposure and controlling the photometry means so as to perform the photometry while the stopped-down apparatus is operated, and a calculating means for calculating the appropriate exposure value based on the photometric value obtained by the photometry means while the stopped-down apparatus is operated.
