Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera that performs AF processing by effectively applying contrast-based focus detection and phase difference-based focus detection.SOLUTION: A digital camera 10 has a photometric sensor 20A and a ranging sensor 18A, and selectively performs phase difference-based focus detection using the ranging sensor 18A and contrast-based focus detection using the photometric sensor 20A in accordance with a user setting. When a focus detection mode is set to a phase difference-based focus detection mode, and if object properties and object area make it difficult to determine an in-focus point in the phase difference-based focus detection mode, the focus detection mode is switched to a contrast-based focus detection mode.
