When a prescribed photographing distance is set by operating areas W2 and T2 in a manual focusing mode, the position of the variable power lens of an electronic zoom lens 12 is detected and the data of a variable power position corresponding to the detected result is read from a data storage area by a microcomputer 40. Besides, a shortest photographing distance corresponding to the data of the variable power position is read from a different data storage area. Then, the set photographing distance(set distance) and the shortest photographing distance are compared. When the set distance is shorter than the shortest photographing distance, the flickering display of the set distance is executed so as to promote the change of the set distance. When the change of the set distance is started, the change of the set distance is received after the set distance is changed to the shortest photographing distance. When a shutter button 22 is half depressed on a condition that the set distance is shorter than the shortest photographing distance as it is, a waiting state for fully depressing the button 22 is attained after the set distance is changed to the shortest photographing distance.
