PURPOSE: To automatically generate a melody after a predeteremined time lighting a candle and by only sound a loudspeaker by detecting the lighting of the candle by an optical sensor, and then actuating a melody generating device.

CONSTITUTION: A candlestick comprises an upper case main body 1, a lower case main body 2, a candle 3 held by the main body 1 and a leg portion 4 provided to the main body 2. A printed wiring board 5, an optical sensor 6 mounted on the board 5, a battery 7, a complex circuit element 8 serving as a melody source, and a small loudspeaker 9, etc., are provided inside the main bodies 1, 2. The main body 1 is provided with a tube portion 10 used for holding the candle and also a hole 12 is provided through a portion of the main body 1 other than a support portion 11 supporting the lower part of the candle and the optical sensor 6 is disposed opposite to the hole 12. To insert a base 5 into the main body 2, the base 5 is locked by a lock portion 13 while the main body 2 is deformed by means of its elasticity. When the device is in use the leg portion 4 is inserted into a decoration cake 22 and enveloped by decorative paper 23 and some melody is generated from the element 8 after a predeteremined time elapses from the lighting of a wick 16.
