To provide a car navigation system capable of easily outputting position information of any point when needed.
The car navigation system comprises a position detector 11, a map data storing section 12, a controller 13, and a memory card interface section 17. The controller 13 has a memory for storing historical information associating the presence position of a vehicle with traveling date and time thereof. When a memory card 10 is attached to a memory card I/F section 17, information of date and time stored in the memory card 10 is sent to the controller 13. The controller 13 decides the presence position of the vehicle at date and time indicated by the information of date and time by referring the historical information and determines position-identifying information (the name of place, landmark, and the like) corresponding to the presence information of the vehicle, by referring the map data storing section 12, and stores the information in the memory card 10.
