Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a copolymer excellent in capability of hole transportation, high in glass transition temp., excellent in stability in the form of a thin film, and useful for an org. EL element by selecting a specific copolymer of a carbazole deriv. with an anthracene deriv.
CONSTITUTION: Selection is made of a carbazole deriv.-anthracene deriv. copolymer having a mol.wt. of 10,000 to 1,000,000 and represented by the formula I (wherein R1 to R17 are each H or alkyl, or form a condensed benzene ring together with an adjacent one of them; n is 0.01 to 50mol%; and m is 50 to 99.99mol.%). This copolymer is obtd. pref. by polymerizing a mixture of an anthracene deriv. of the formula II with a carbazole deriv. of the formula III in the presence of a polymn. initiator or a catalyst (e.g. trifluoroborane etherate).
