In the carbon brush for the electric machine including at least a carbon as a component, a conductive metal layer 1 is coated on the surface of the brush base material 3 with join characteristics to resin, all over the surface excluding its contact at the tip so as to reduce resistance as a whole of the carbon brush; a hole for mounting a lead wire is formed on the base material after coating to conduct the embedded mounting of the lead wire 4 with copper powder 5; and a nonelectrolytic plating is performed onto the conductive metal layer 1 with a thickness of 3 to 10 m. The carbon brush for the electric machine is used to constitute the electric motor for vacuum cleaner.
