To provide a carbon fiber bundle capable of exhibiting excellent mechanical characteristics, by being composited with a polyolefin-based thermoplastic resin, and further having excellent morphologic stability, handleability, when formed into a fiber-reinforced composite material, and economical efficiency, and to provide a chopped carbon fiber bundle formed out of the carbon fiber bundle.
This carbon fiber bundle, or the chopped carbon fiber bundle, is bundled by using a sizing agent which contains a specified acid-modified polypropylene resin and an olefinic thermoplastic elastomer resin as constituents or another sizing agent which contains a copolymer containing ethylene or propylene and an epoxy-containing monomer component as a constituent. Further, the chopped carbon fiber bundle is obtained by applying the water-based sizing agent to the carbon fiber bundle, cutting the bundle into a prescribed length in a state of having a specific water content, and then drying the cut bundle.
