PURPOSE: To enable a composite material to exhibit required oxidation resistance when heated and obtain a carbon fiber.ceramic composite material, having sufficient toughness and other practical mechanical strengths by applying a borosiloxane which is an organometallic compound to carbon fiber without reducing the production efficiency and simultaneously suppressing the amount of formed pores in the composite material in conversion into ceramics.
CONSTITUTION: A carbon.fiber ceramic composite material composed of carbon fiber, silicon carbide fine powder and a borosiloxane of an amorphous construction is obtained. The composite material is produced by impregnating or coating the surface of the carbon fiber with a solution of diphenylborosiloxane containing silicon carbide fine powder added thereto [blended at (3:1) to (1:1) ratio of the diphenylborosiloxane:silicon carbide[ in an organic solvent, then carrying out primary heat treatment at 300-500°C and further secondary heat treatment at a high temperature of ≥1000°C.
