To provide a method and apparatus for producing carbon having carbon allotropes, by which high quality carbon can be produced, a method for producing a carbon formed article, and a method for producing a formed article comprising a carbon alloy or a carbon composite material.
The apparatus for producing the carbon having the carbon allotropes has a heating means for thermally decomposing a woody biomass raw material 1 in non-oxidizing gas atmosphere and a resynthesis mean for resynthesizing thermally decomposed gaseous substances obtained by the heating means into the carbon material having the carbon allotropes on a catalyst 19. The heating means has a tubular thermal decomposition tube 11 in which both the ends are closed, many through holes are formed, and electrodes 17, 18 are oppositely arranged at both the ends for thermally decomposing the woody biomass raw material 1, fed into the inside of the tube 11, in the non-oxidizing gas atmosphere. The resynthesis mean has an external member, which is provided so as to surround the thermal decomposition tube 11 and is cooled, and resynthesizes the thermally decomposed gaseous substances, introduced to the inside of the external member through the through holes of the thermal decomposition tube 11, into the carbon material having the carbon allotropes by utilizing the catalyst 19 provided at the outside of the thermal decomposition tube 11 inside the external member.
