Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new monomer capable of improving the flexibility and other physical properties of copolymers therefrom.

CONSTITUTION: This acrylic monomer is expressed by formula I (R1 is H or methyl; R2-R4 are each a 2-8C alkylene; R5 is the hydrocarbon residue of an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic dicarboxylic anhydride; n is 0 or 1-6; m is 1-6). This compound is obtained by reaction of a hydroxyl-contg. acrylic monomer of formula II with an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic dicarboxylic anhydride. The compound of formula II, in turn, is prepared by reaction between a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate of formula III or a lactone adduct thereof and a cyclic carbonate of formula IV in the presence of a catalyst.
