To provide a method of manufacturing a novel carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) structure effective as a medical material, especially as an adhesion preventive material; further to provide a CMC structure excellent in the biocompatibility and bioabsorbability, capable of controlling a function exhibiting period and dissolving period, or a CMC structure capable of simultaneously exhibiting adhesion preventive effects and wound healing effects.
The structure is substantially made of carboxymethyl cellulose and is in a state in which acid carboxymethyl cellulose and alkali metal carboxymethyl cellulose are intermingled. The method of manufacturing the structure is characterized by acid (or alkali) treatment of the structure made of alkali metal (or acid) carboxymethyl cellulose from outside, and termination of the acid (or alkali) treatment before conversion of all the alkali metal (or acid) carboxymethyl cellulose into the acid (or alkali metal) carboxymethyl cellulose.
